1) What personal data we collect

Depending on how you interact with the Website, we may collect:

  • Contact details: name, email address (e.g., newsletter signup, quiz, contact requests)
  • Booking details: name, email address and any details you provide when booking via Calendly
  • Quiz information: your quiz inputs and score (stored in Typeform)
  • Comments: information you submit when commenting on blog posts (and technical identifiers as part of the commenting function)
  • Newsletter engagement: information about how you interact with our emails (e.g., opens and link clicks)
  • Technical data: IP address, device/browser information, pages viewed, timestamps, and similar log data
  • Cookie and tracking data: where you consent, we may collect analytics and advertising identifiers via cookies/pixels

We do not intentionally collect sensitive “special category” data (e.g., health data). Please avoid sharing sensitive personal details in free-text fields.

2) Why we use your data (purposes)

We use personal data for the following purposes:

  • Provide and improve the Website (security, troubleshooting, performance)
  • Send newsletters and marketing communications (when you opt in)
  • Deliver quiz results and related content (and, where you consent, add you to email updates)
  • Respond to messages and provide support
  • Manage bookings (e.g., scheduling, confirmations, reminders)
  • Enable blog interaction (comments and moderation)
  • Collect feedback and testimonials (only with your permission for publication)
  • Measure performance and run advertising (analytics and targeted advertising, only where required consents are given)
  • Enforce our terms and handle disputes (if needed)

3) Legal bases (GDPR)

We process personal data under one or more of these legal bases:

  • Consent (e.g., newsletter subscription; marketing cookies/pixels where required)
  • Contract / pre-contract steps (e.g., responding to requests, managing bookings, delivering what you asked for)
  • Legitimate interests (e.g., website security, preventing abuse, improving content and services)
  • Legal obligation (e.g., if required to keep records or respond to lawful requests)

You can withdraw consent at any time (see Section 7).

4) How we share your data

We do not sell your personal data.

We share personal data with trusted service providers (processors) who help us run the Website and deliver services, for example:

  • Email marketing: Mailchimp (newsletters, automation, open/click tracking)
  • Quiz/forms: Typeform (quiz data collection and storage)
  • Scheduling: Calendly (booking and reminders)
  • Analytics: Google Analytics
  • Advertising: Meta/Facebook Pixel
  • Media embeds: Vimeo and/or YouTube (when embedded content is loaded)
  • Course/learning platforms (when you use them): Mentortools and/or Alfima
  • Payment/checkout (offsite): Alfima, CopeCart and potentially Digistore24 (when you purchase via their checkout)

These providers may process data only on our instructions and for the purposes described above.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, prevent fraud/abuse, or in connection with a business transfer (e.g., merger/acquisition).

5) International transfers

Some service providers may process personal data outside the EU/EEA. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (or other valid transfer mechanisms) to protect your data.

6) Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described:

  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe (and then only as needed to maintain suppression lists so we don’t email you again)
  • Support/contact messages: typically up to 24 months
  • Quiz responses (Typeform): deleted regularly and no later than 24 months
    • We may keep a non-detailed tag/segment in our email system based on score range (without storing the underlying quiz answers)
  • Analytics and advertising data: retained according to our tool settings and only where applicable consents are in place

You can request deletion by emailing us.

7) Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law (including GDPR), you may have rights to:

  • access your personal data
  • correct inaccurate data
  • delete data
  • restrict or object to processing
  • data portability
  • withdraw consent (where processing is based on consent)
  • lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise your rights, email info@expathappiness.com.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in the email footer.

Complaints (Denmark): You may lodge a complaint with Datatilsynet (the Danish Data Protection Agency).

8) Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies. Non-essential cookies (including analytics and advertising) are used only when required consents are given via our cookie banner/settings. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the ‘Cookie Settings’ icon on the Website. For details, see our Cookie Policy and cookie settings on the Website.

9) Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No system is completely secure, and transmission over the internet is at your own risk.

10) Third-party links and embeds

The Website may include links or embedded content from third parties (e.g., YouTube/Vimeo). When you interact with third-party services, their own privacy policies apply. We are not responsible for third-party practices.

11) Children

Our Website and services are intended primarily for adults. If you are under 16, please do not submit personal data through the Website unless you have consent from a parent or guardian. In limited cases where we intentionally offer services to minors, we will collect and process personal data only with appropriate parental/guardian involvement where required. If you believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete the information.
